Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has declared his readiness to take charge of the Black Stars should the Ghana Football Association (GFA) offer him the opportunity, while urging the country’s football leadership to embrace a long-term rebuilding plan for the senior national team.

The future of Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz remains uncertain following Ghana’s exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Portuguese manager, who was appointed on a short-term deal in April after Otto Addo’s departure, suggested in a social media farewell message that his time with the team had come to an end.

With discussions expected over who should lead the Black Stars into the next phase, Kingston has made no secret of his desire to serve his country if called upon.

Speaking on Joy Prime, the former midfielder emphasised that Ghana must abandon the expectation of instant success and instead commit to a structured project capable of producing lasting results.

Kingston, who currently coaches Uganda’s Under-17 national team, said he remains fully committed to his present role but would find it difficult to turn down the chance to manage the Black Stars.

“I have a job now, and I am happy with my job for now. I’m a Ghanaian, and I would love to hear that call [from the FA to come and coach the team]. There is no better joy than helping your country,” he said.

His comments come as the GFA prepares to review Ghana’s World Cup campaign and determine the direction of the national team ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
