Kotoko’s Karim Zito Sets Group Stage as First Target in CAF Confederation Cup
Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has outlined the club’s immediate ambition in the CAF Confederation Cup, stressing that his side is focused on reaching the group stage of the competition.
The Porcupine Warriors are preparing to open their campaign against Nigeria’s Kwara United in the preliminary round. The first leg is scheduled for Sunday, September 21, at the Accra Sports Stadium, before the return fixture a week later in Ilorin.
Ahead of the tie, the veteran tactician called on the Kotoko faithful to show unity and back the team as they seek continental success.
“Going into Africa is not easy, so I am pleading with the fans to stay united and support the team,” Zito told Asempa FM.
He further emphasized the importance of togetherness, drawing from his own past triumphs on the continent.
“I played and won Africa, so I will be happy to win this tournament, but it must start with the fans coming together,” he noted.
Zito made it clear that while the dream is to lift the trophy, the first milestone is to break into the financially rewarding group stage.
“The target is to get into the money zone, but we must first win the game against Kwara United,” he added.
Kotoko, who endured a difficult domestic campaign last season, return to African competition seeking redemption and an opportunity to make a strong statement against their Nigerian counterparts.
