Interim Asante Kotoko head coach Prince Yaw Owusu has admitted that his side’s ambitions of winning the Ghana Premier League title have suffered a major setback following their narrow defeat to Hearts of Oak on Sunday.

Kotoko entered the Super Clash under pressure, having endured a difficult run of results that included a league defeat to Heart of Lions and an FA Cup elimination by Aduana FC. Playing at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, the Porcupine Warriors were eager to reignite their campaign in front of their supporters.

However, their recovery plans were disrupted early in the contest when Baba Adamu nodded home in the 15th minute to give Hearts of Oak the lead—a goal that ultimately separated the two sides at full time.

Speaking after the match, Yaw Owusu acknowledged the impact of the loss on Kotoko’s title push, stressing that his team now faces a tough battle to remain in contention.

“This defeat to Hearts makes our title ambition very difficult. Now we need to fight very hard before we can get the title,” he said.

The defeat leaves Kotoko in fifth position on the league standings with 35 points, increasing the pressure as the season enters a decisive phase. The Kumasi-based side will aim to bounce back when they take on Young Apostles in Matchday 23 at the Wenchi Sports Stadium this weekend.
