Asante Kotoko concluded their 2024/25 Ghana Premier League campaign with a disappointing 3-1 loss to Vision FC at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex on Sunday, sealing a fifth-place finish in the standings.

The Porcupine Warriors had hoped to close out their season on a high, but were undone by a spirited second-half performance from the newly promoted Vision side, who ended their maiden top-flight season in 11th with 45 points.

The opening exchanges were cagey, with both sides probing cautiously. It was Kotoko who broke the deadlock in the 38th minute when Emmanuel Antwi’s first-time left-footed strike took a wicked deflection and nestled into the bottom left corner, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.

However, their advantage was short-lived. Just two minutes later, substitute Edmond Asante equalised for Vision FC, capitalising on a loose ball in the box to poke home and restore parity before halftime.

The second half saw Vision FC grow into the game with renewed intensity. Frank Duku emerged as the match-winner, putting the hosts ahead in the 81st minute with a composed finish before sealing the result deep into stoppage time with his second of the afternoon, crushing any hopes of a Kotoko comeback.

The defeat marked the first loss under interim head coach Karim Zito, who was appointed late in the season. Despite the setback, Kotoko’s season is not over yet, as they turn their attention to the 2024/25 FA Cup final against Golden Kicks on June 15 at the University of Ghana Stadium. The final presents an opportunity to end an otherwise underwhelming season with silverware and a return to continental football.

For Vision FC, their debut season in the top division has ended on a positive note, with survival secured and a memorable final-day victory over one of Ghana’s biggest clubs.
