Head coach of the Ghana Women’s National Team, Kim Lars Björkegren, has named a 24-player squad for camping as the Black Queens intensify preparations for the upcoming 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Only four home-based players have made the list: Kerrie McCarthy, Afi Amenyeku, Comfort Yeboah, and Nancy Amoh, reflecting Björkegren’s trust in his foreign legion as Ghana targets a strong campaign.

The Black Queens are set to camp outside Ghana, though the GFA has yet to disclose the specific destination. The international training camp is part of final preparations ahead of the tournament, with focus on tactical cohesion and fitness levels.

Ghana have been drawn in Group C of the 2024 WAFCON, alongside defending champions South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania — a challenging pool that will test the team’s progress under Björkegren’s leadership.

The WAFCON 2024 tournament kicks off on July 5, with the final scheduled for July 26. The Black Queens will be hoping to end their long wait for a continental crown, having finished as runners-up on three previous occasions.
