Leicester City forward Jordan Ayew has revealed his deep admiration for former Black Stars legends Stephen Appiah and Laryea Kingston, expressing his regret at never having the opportunity to share the pitch with them at the national team level.

Ayew, who recently captained Ghana to back-to-back victories in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, made his international debut in September 2010—after both Appiah and Kingston had retired from national duty.

Reflecting on his time with the Black Stars, Ayew fondly recalled playing alongside Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari, and wished he could have had the same experience with Appiah and Kingston.

“I admired Stephen Appiah and Laryea Kingston as footballers, and I wish I could have played with them because of the feeling with Essien and Muntari,” Ayew told JoySports. “Muntari in the game and Essien in training a bit, I was like wow.”

Since making his debut 14 years ago, Ayew has been a key figure for Ghana, earning 104 caps and scoring 28 goals. His leadership has been instrumental in Ghana’s recent World Cup qualification campaign, and he remains a vital part of the national team setup.
