Jordan Ayew Admits Black Stars Are in Transition, Calls for Patience
Ghana captain Jordan Ayew has acknowledged that the Black Stars are going through a difficult phase, urging patience as the team rebuilds.
The Black Stars have struggled in recent years, with their decline hitting rock bottom in November 2024 when they failed to win a single match in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers, resulting in their absence from the tournament.
Speaking to Joy Sports, Ayew admitted that international football comes in cycles, and Ghana is currently in a rebuilding period under head coach Otto Addo.
“International football has periods, and we are in a period of transition. The head coach [Otto Addo] has also come in with different ideas, so it will take time,” Ayew explained.
Drawing a comparison to Manchester City’s struggles in the 2024/25 season, the experienced forward stressed that rebuilding a winning team requires time and patience.
“Look at Man City and their struggles this season, for example. It is the end of an era, and it’ll take time for them to build again,” he noted. “I think we need patience because I’m convinced we have the players to turn things around.”
Despite their recent woes, Ayew remains optimistic that the Black Stars have the quality to bounce back.
Ghana’s next challenge comes in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where they face Chad on March 21 at the Accra Sports Stadium before taking on Madagascar in Morocco on March 24.
