Black Queens midfielder Jenifer Cudjoe has expressed the team’s determination to secure a win in their second group match against Mali at the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Ghana will take on Mali in a crucial Group C fixture on Friday at the Stade Municipal de Berkane, with both sides eyeing maximum points. The Black Queens are looking to bounce back from their opening defeat to South Africa, while Mali will aim to build on their narrow win over Tanzania.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Cudjoe — who missed Ghana’s first game — underlined the importance of staying focused as they chase their first points of the tournament.

“We are looking forward to the next game against Mali. Our focus is to ensure we get the three maximum points,” she said.

Reflecting on the loss to South Africa, Cudjoe acknowledged the disappointment but emphasized that the team is using the experience as motivation to improve.

“We didn’t want to lose against South Africa. We always want to win, we take lessons from our defeat against South Africa going forward. We’ve put the defeat behind us. We had good chances which we could have capitalize on but it didn’t happen,” she added.

Ghana will be hoping to revive their WAFCON campaign with a strong performance, knowing that a loss could seriously dent their hopes of advancing from the group stage.
