“It feels very great to score against Hearts of Oak”- Salim Adams
Salim Adams was the unlikely hero on Sunday evening as Medeama SC secured a narrow but crucial 1–0 victory over Hearts of Oak, with the midfielder netting the decisive goal against his former employers.
The Matchday 17 encounter at the TnA Stadium lived up to its billing, with both sides locked in an intense battle before Adams broke the deadlock in the 74th minute. His close-range finish proved decisive, handing the Mauve and Yellow a vital win to close the first half of the season on a high.
Speaking after the match, Adams could not hide his excitement at scoring against the club where he once plied his trade, revealing that the moment was the product of careful preparation.
“It feels very great to score against Hearts of Oak. From the whole week, we practice for that. I knew he was going to cut back that’s why I waited. Our plan is to stay on top till the end of the league so we will take it,” Adams said.
Despite dealing the Phobians a painful defeat, the midfielder was quick to acknowledge the quality within the Hearts setup, insisting they remain strong contenders.
“Hearts of Oak have a good squad as well, they were just unlucky,” he added.
The victory ensures Medeama SC, the 2023 Ghanaian champions, end the first round at the summit of the Ghana Premier League table with 34 points, holding a two-point cushion over their closest rivals. The win also extends their remarkable run to 14 matches without defeat.
Attention now shifts to the second round, with Medeama set to host Young Apostles as they look to maintain their grip at the top of the standings.
