Ghanaian midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana was the hero on Monday night as Atalanta edged AS Roma 2-1 in a thrilling Italian Serie A encounter, securing their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

The 21-year-old Black Stars international was introduced in the 68th minute for Mario Pasalic and made an immediate impact just nine minutes later.

Sulemana pounced on a loose ball just outside the Roma box and unleashed a thunderous first-time strike that flew past goalkeeper Mile Svilar into the net—marking his first goal for the club in spectacular fashion.

The victory, crucial in the penultimate stages of the season, ensures Atalanta will compete in Europe’s premier club competition in the 2025/26 campaign.

Earlier in the match, Nigerian star Ademola Lookman opened the scoring for Atalanta in the 9th minute, capitalizing on a clever build-up play. However, Roma fought back and levelled through Bryan Cristante in the 32nd minute to set up a tense second half.

Sulemana’s introduction and decisive goal not only thrilled the home crowd at Gewiss Stadium but also demonstrated his growing influence in Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad. The win sees Atalanta rise to fourth on the Serie A table with two matches left to play.
