Ian Wright Backs Thomas Partey for Contract Extension at Arsenal
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has strongly backed Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey to receive a new contract at the club, dismissing doubts about the player’s future and emphasizing his irreplaceable qualities in Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Partey, whose five-year deal with the Gunners expires this summer, has been linked with a move away from the Emirates, with clubs from Europe and the Saudi Pro League reportedly showing interest. However, Arsenal are believed to be carefully weighing their options before making a final decision.
Speaking in an interview, Ian Wright urged the club to act decisively and reward Partey with a new deal, pointing to the 31-year-old’s experience and unique profile as crucial assets.
“I don’t see why we should be thinking about it — there’s nothing to think about,” Wright said emphatically.
“Thomas Partey should be given another contract. It’s not easy to find a midfielder like Thomas.”
Wright went on to emphasize the scarcity of players with Partey’s qualities.
“We don’t have many of them in the streets. He has shown that he deserves more and more.”
Partey was instrumental in Arsenal’s recent UEFA Champions League quarterfinal win over Real Madrid, putting in a commanding midfield performance that helped the Gunners claim a first-leg advantage.
Although he missed Arsenal’s 1-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their semifinal clash at the Emirates, the Ghanaian is expected to return to the starting lineup for the second leg in Paris on Wednesday night.
With the season entering its decisive phase, Partey’s form and fitness will be vital as Arsenal chase both domestic and European glory — and Ian Wright believes it’s time for the club to secure his future.
