Hohoe United Turn to Kassim Gokyildiz in Bid to Escape Relegation
Hohoe United have moved swiftly to reshape their technical direction by appointing experienced Turkish tactician Kassim Gokyildiz as their new head coach ahead of the crucial second half of the Ghana Premier League season.
The club confirmed the appointment on Saturday, January 10, 2026, through its official channels, although details of the contract length were not disclosed. Gokyildiz arrives with a strong understanding of the local football landscape, having previously worked with several Ghanaian clubs in both senior and developmental roles.
His coaching résumé includes stints as head coach of King Faisal and AshantiGold, alongside spells as Technical Director and Under-18 coach at Bechem United. He has also managed Rainmasters FC, further underlining his familiarity with the domestic game and its demands.
Hohoe United’s decision comes at a critical moment. Newly promoted to the top flight, the Volta-based side have struggled for consistency and currently sit bottom of the league table with 18 points from 18 matches. The club has made it clear that Gokyildiz’s immediate mandate is to stabilise results and steer the team clear of relegation danger.
The timing of the announcement coincided with Hohoe United’s 1–0 home defeat to Hearts of Oak, a match Gokyildiz did not oversee, as he is expected to officially begin work in the coming days.
Importantly, the new coach holds a UEFA A Licence, satisfying Ghana Football Association requirements for Premier Division managers and reinforcing the club’s intent to meet both technical and regulatory standards.
With survival firmly the priority, Hohoe United will be hoping Gokyildiz’s experience and tactical nous can spark a turnaround as the season reaches its decisive phase.
