Accra Hearts of Oak have moved to calm their supporters after world football governing body, FIFA, imposed a three-window transfer ban on the club for failing to settle an outstanding debt owed to former Technical Director, Rene Hiddink.

The sanction, confirmed in a letter from FIFA’s Legal and Compliance Division dated Thursday, August 21, 2025, restricts the Phobians from registering new players both locally and internationally. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has been instructed to enforce the ruling.

In an official statement issued on Friday, August 22, Hearts of Oak acknowledged the seriousness of the situation but reassured fans that steps are being taken to address it.

“FIFA has confirmed the implementation of a registration ban on the club due to unresolved financial obligations. We acknowledge the seriousness of this development and wish to assure our supporters that the Management and Board are actively engaging all relevant parties including the Ghana Football Association and FIFA to resolve the matter swiftly and responsibly,” the statement read.

The club further clarified that all player registrations for the 2025/26 season had already been completed prior to the ban, meaning there will be no immediate impact on the playing squad. Hearts also appealed for calm, urging fans to remain steadfast during this period.

“The club assures all Phobians that this situation, though challenging, is being handled with urgency and commitment. We call on our cherished fans to stay united and continue to support the team as we navigate this matter,” the statement concluded.

The Phobians are currently preparing for the start of the new Ghana Premier League season, with hopes that the matter will be resolved before the next transfer window.
