Gold Fields has announced a major sponsorship package worth US$5 million over the next two years to support football development in Ghana.

The agreement was officially unveiled on Friday, May 8, during a ceremony held at the company’s headquarters in Accra.

Under the partnership, funding and logistical support will be directed toward several national teams and competitions, including the Black Stars, Black Queens, Black Challenge and the Ghana Women’s Premier League.

The investment arrives at an important moment for Ghana football, with the Black Stars preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while the Black Queens continue preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Stakeholders have particularly welcomed the inclusion of the Black Challenge in the sponsorship package, describing it as a positive step toward promoting inclusivity and supporting para sports development in the country.

The Ghana Women’s Premier League is also expected to gain from the partnership through increased investment and exposure, which officials believe could further elevate women’s football nationwide.

Football administrators and industry observers have described the sponsorship as one of the most substantial corporate commitments to Ghana football in recent years, with expectations that it will strengthen preparation, player welfare and the overall structure of the supported teams and competitions.

The unveiling event brought together officials from the Ghana Football Association, government representatives, executives from Gold Fields, and members of the football fraternity, including Stephen Appiah, who serves as vice chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee.
