Ghana has officially been selected to stage the 15th Africa Armwrestling Championship, with the continental event slated for Accra from April 29 to May 3, 2026.

The Armwrestling Federation of Africa (AFA) confirmed the decision, noting a shift in the competition calendar as the championship moves from its usual July slot to an earlier date in the year. The adjustment is aimed at better aligning the tournament with other major international events.

Beyond continental honours, the Accra championship will carry added significance, as it will also serve as the official qualification tournament for armwrestling at the 2027 African Games. This development is expected to intensify competition among participating nations.

Ghana’s readiness to deliver a successful championship is underlined by Charles Osei Asibey, President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation and the Armwrestling Federation of Africa, as well as Vice President of the World Armwrestling Federation.

“We are doing everything possible to make sure this championship will be a very wonderful event,” Asibey said. “As hosts, Ghana is ready to showcase not only its organisational capacity but also the best of African armwrestling to the world.”

Organisers are expected to release detailed information on registration procedures, competition rules and accommodation for teams in the coming weeks. With qualification for the African Games on the line, the 2026 edition in Accra is already being tipped as one of the most fiercely contested Africa Armwrestling Championships to date.
