Ghana’s U20 national team finished third at the 2025 WAFU-B U20 Boys Cup after securing a 2-0 victory over Niger on Thursday at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra.

The match began with both sides evenly matched in possession, but it was Desmond Ofei’s men who created the better chances and ended the first half with a stronger showing.

Ghana returned from the break with renewed purpose, showcasing a blend of flair and physicality that limited Niger’s offensive opportunities. The Black Satellites controlled the tempo, steadily building pressure as the second half progressed.

The game took a controversial twist in the 67th minute when the referee awarded Ghana a penalty for a handball in the box. Niger players protested the decision and temporarily walked off the pitch, bringing the match to a standstill. After intervention from CAF officials, order was restored and play resumed.

Aziz Musibau stepped up and confidently converted the spot-kick in the 70th minute, handing Ghana a deserved lead.

Eight minutes later, Musibau was at it again. A rapid counterattack saw Kelvin Nkrumah whip in a precise low cross from the right, which Musibau met with a simple tap-in to seal his brace and Ghana’s control of the game.

The Black Satellites maintained their composure for the remainder of the match, securing a solid 2-0 win and claiming third place in the maiden edition of the WAFU-B U20 Boys Cup.

The victory ensures a positive end to Ghana’s campaign, highlighting the team’s resilience and attacking prowess despite missing out on the final.
