GFA Imposes Indefinite Home Venue Ban on PAC Academy and Port City FC
The Ghana Football Association has taken decisive action by indefinitely banning Division One League sides PAC Academy and Port City Football Club from using their approved home venues, following reports of crowd violence over the weekend.
The ruling, announced by the GFA Executive Council, comes in response to disturbances recorded during two separate league fixtures — PAC Academy’s clash with FC Ashgold 04 and Port City FC’s encounter against True Democracy. Based on preliminary information, the Association concluded that immediate intervention was necessary to safeguard players, officials, and supporters.
As a result, the GFA’s Competitions Department has been directed to assign alternative venues for the upcoming home matches of both clubs. In doing so, officials will also consider travel implications for visiting teams to ensure fairness in scheduling.
In enforcing the sanction, the Executive Council invoked its authority under Article 14(2) of the Division One League Regulations, which empowers the Association to act where safety concerns arise. The regulation states: “The GFA may order the closure of any league centre/venue where the safety of clubs, match officials and/or spectators cannot be guaranteed.”
According to the Association, the swift decision is intended to prevent a recurrence of the reported incidents while a more detailed investigation is conducted. The GFA has begun a comprehensive fact-finding process to establish exactly what occurred during the affected matches.
The Association confirmed it is collaborating with the Ghana Police Service and other relevant stakeholders as part of the inquiry and expressed confidence that the investigations will provide a clear and accurate account of events.
Until further notice, both PAC Academy and Port City FC will remain barred from hosting matches at their designated home grounds as the GFA continues efforts to restore safety and order in the Division One League.
