Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member Nana Oduro Sarfo has acknowledged that the handling of Black Stars captaincy transitions has often been mismanaged, leading to unnecessary controversy and instability within the national team.

Oduro Sarfo’s comments reinforce the need for a well-structured and transparent approach to selecting and managing the team’s leadership to prevent further disruptions in the squad.

Speaking in an interview with Connect 97.1 FM, Oduro Sarfo admitted that previous leadership structures struggled to implement smooth transitions, creating friction among players and uncertainty among fans.

“Captaincy issues have genuinely brought so many bad times for the Black Stars. They are largely the decision of the coach, but I concur it has been mismanaged throughout the years,” he stated.

The Black Stars have had a long history of captaincy-related disputes, with recent incidents further highlighting the lack of clarity in the leadership structure.

Notably, Jordan Ayew is reportedly set to be named the substantive captain, while Thomas Partey have declined the deputy captain role. In addition, Mohammed Kudus unexpectedly wore the armband during Ghana’s international matches in November.
