GFA Defers Response to Sports Ministry, Focuses on Black Stars’ World Cup Qualifiers
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that it will hold off on addressing remarks made by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation until after the Black Stars complete their upcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Chad and Mali.
This decision follows statements from Sports Minister Kofi Adams, who disclosed budgetary adjustments for the qualifiers during a press briefing on Tuesday.
In a release dated September 2, the GFA emphasized that its primary concern is ensuring full national backing for the Black Stars ahead of the crucial double-header in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
“As the custodian of Ghana football, the GFA will, in due course, provide clarifications to the issues raised,” the statement noted. “We, however, deem it prudent at this time to maintain our collective focus on the immediate national task at hand – the crucial qualifiers against Chad on September 4 and Mali on September 8.”
The Association further appealed to Ghanaians to stand united behind the team, stressing that solidarity and dedication remain the Black Stars’ biggest assets.
Ghana will first take on Chad in N’Djamena on Thursday before returning to the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday to face Mali. Both games carry significant weight in the nation’s pursuit of a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
