GFA Appoints Winfried Anton Schafer as Technical Advisor for Black Stars
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) have appointed German tactician Winfried Anton Schafer as Technical Advisor for the Black Stars.
This significant change to the technical setup of the Black Stars follows a comprehensive review of the team’s performance during last year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Schafer, a former AFCON-winning coach with Cameroon in 2002, will collaborate closely with Black Stars Head Coach Otto Addo to assemble a formidable team.
Additionally, Schafer will serve as the Director of Football for the GFA, overseeing strategic planning and development initiatives.
Schafer’s managerial career spans over four decades, featuring stints with various national teams, including Cameroon, Thailand, and Jamaica. His extensive club experience includes coaching European sides such as Borussia Monchengladbach, Karlsruher SC, VfB Stuttgart, and Borussia Berlin.
Notably, Schafer’s tenure with Cameroon peaked with their AFCON triumph in 2002, a testament to his tactical acumen and ability to inspire teams on the international stage.
The GFA is optimistic that Schafer with Otto Addo will inject fresh momentum into the Black Stars as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
