Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President, George Afriyie, has revealed that the GFA, under the leadership of Kurt Okraku, has received a total of $7.5 million in funding from FIFA over the past four years.
Speaking in an interview with Oyerepa FM, Afriyie claimed that intercepted documents indicate the funds were allocated to support football activities across the country from 2020 to 2024.
Providing a breakdown, he noted:
- In 2020, when Kurt Okraku assumed office, the GFA received $1 million from FIFA, alongside $500,000 for special projects and an additional $200,000 for equipment, totaling $1.7 million that year.
- In 2021, the figure rose to $1.8 million.
- By 2022, FIFA allocated another $1.7 million.
- In 2024, the GFA secured its highest amount yet—$2.3 million.
Afriyie also referenced contributions from sponsors such as PUMA and CAF, suggesting that these partnerships remain key revenue streams for the GFA. His remarks highlight growing calls for transparency and accountability regarding the use of these funds to ensure they benefit football development across all levels.
