Ghana Athletics Association President Bawa Fuseini has outlined plans to implement top-tier technical systems for the upcoming African Senior Athletics Championships, as the country steps up preparations to host the competition for the first time.

Speaking during the official launch, Fuseini emphasized the need for precision and credibility in officiating, noting that Ghana is determined to meet international benchmarks used at major global competitions such as the World Championships and Olympic Games.

“This is the first time Ghana is hosting the African Athletics Championships, and we are putting in place the right structures to meet global standards,” he said.

His remarks come against the backdrop of previous challenges experienced in athletics events across the continent, with organizers keen to avoid any controversies by adopting reliable and modern systems.

The championship is scheduled to take place from May 12 to May 17, 2026, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, where Africa’s top track and field athletes will converge for the continental showdown.

According to the association, the investment in advanced systems and infrastructure forms part of a broader strategy to ensure a seamless and transparent competition, while also enhancing Ghana’s reputation as a capable host of major international sporting events.

With preparations gathering pace, officials remain confident that Accra 2026 will deliver a high-quality tournament that meets global expectations and leaves a lasting impact on athletics development in the country.
