Fatawu Issahaku Targets Premier League Success After Completing Ipswich Town Move
Ghana international Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has spoken of his excitement after sealing his move to Ipswich Town, saying the club’s ambition and the opportunity to work under head coach Gary O’Neil made the decision an easy one.
The 22-year-old winger recently joined the newly promoted Premier League side on a long-term deal after leaving Leicester City, becoming one of Ipswich’s key additions ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Fatawu said he is eager to begin the next chapter of his career and help the club establish itself in England’s top flight.
“I am proud to have signed for Ipswich Town,” the Black Stars attacker said.
He revealed that conversations with manager Gary O’Neil convinced him that the club’s vision aligned with his own ambitions.
“The ambition the club has is very exciting and I’m looking forward to being a part of that as we prepare for the Premier League season. After speaking to the manager (Gary O’Neil), I know what the expectation is and I’m looking forward to meeting my teammates and starting work.”
Fatawu also acknowledged the passion of the Ipswich supporters, having faced the club on several occasions during his time in England.
“I have played against Ipswich a few times during my time in England and I know how passionate the supporters are for the club, so I’m excited to play for them and show them what I can do.”
Ipswich manager Gary O’Neil welcomed the signing, describing the Ghanaian as a talented player capable of strengthening the squad in multiple attacking positions.
“Abdul is a young player who has already gained good experience in the game and we’re excited to have him with us,” O’Neil said.
The manager believes Fatawu’s combination of athleticism and technical ability will provide an added dimension to Ipswich’s attack.
“He has strong physical and technical attributes, is comfortable on the ball and can test the opposition in one-on-one situations, so will provide us with good options within the squad.”
O’Neil also highlighted the winger’s international pedigree following his performances for Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“Having represented his country at the World Cup this summer, I know he is now looking forward to getting to work ahead of the Premier League season.”
With pre-season preparations already underway, Fatawu will now focus on settling into his new surroundings as Ipswich gear up for their return to Premier League football.
