Black Stars goalkeepers’ trainer Fatawu Dauda has lauded Hearts of Oak captain Benjamin Asare for his discipline, humility and eagerness to improve, describing these qualities as key drivers of his rise in Ghanaian football.

Asare, 33, has grown into Ghana’s first-choice goalkeeper as the Black Stars intensify preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He recently produced an impressive display in Hearts of Oak’s 1-0 Super Clash win over Asante Kotoko, further underlining his importance at both club and national levels.

Speaking in an interview, Dauda revealed that he maintains regular contact with Asare, offering technical advice and feedback to help refine his game.

“I’ve been in that position before. Because he’s in the team as a Black Stars player, and that’s my department, so anytime they play the game, I get in touch with him, with his goalkeeper coach. We share ideas, we give feedbacks for the way how he can improve as a goalkeeper and as an individual,” he explained.

The former Ghana international emphasised that Asare’s attitude sets him apart, highlighting his willingness to listen and grow.

“So I keep advising him to stay focused… For now, I think he’s staying focused because it’s someone who will listen. He talked to me listening. So he’s a fast learner, he’s coachable. So I’m happy for him. He’s doing well for his club and for himself,” Dauda added.

Dauda also noted the added pressure that comes with being a captain and a goalkeeper, stressing that leadership from the back demands resilience and mental strength.

“Being a captain, a leader, and then a commander, you know, it’s not easy. For that position, definitely, you need to be criticised if things are not going well. That’s how it should be,” he said.
