Hearts of Oak head coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani has cautioned supporters to keep their expectations in check after his side lifted the 2025 Democracy Cup, stressing that the team is still a work in progress.

The Phobians edged city rivals Accra Great Olympics 1-0 on Friday evening at the University of Ghana Stadium, courtesy of a 70th-minute strike from Kwesi Asmah, who also scooped the Man of the Match accolade. The victory secured Hearts the Democracy Cup title, a year after they fell short against Asante Kotoko in the inaugural edition.

While the triumph adds a second pre-season trophy to Hearts’ collection, Dramani was quick to remind the media that the team remains in transition and must continue developing.

“It’s still early days yet…we are ready to play [the new league campaign] but there is still a lot of work to improve on,” he said.

The coach emphasised that building a formidable side is a gradual process:

“We are a developmental team, it’s [the team] a work in progress so there’s still some areas to still work on and then we become more formidable.”

Hearts of Oak will now shift their focus to the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League opener against newly-promoted Hohoe United on Friday, September 12. Dramani will be hoping to build on the cup success while carefully managing expectations as the Phobians seek to mount a stronger title challenge this season.
