Desmond Offei heaps praises on players for U20 AFCON qualification
Ghana Black Satellites head coach, Desmond Offei has given credit to the Ghana U20 players for securing qualification to the 2025 African Cup of Nations.
Ghana booked their ticket to the U20 AFCON after they qualified for the semi-finals of the just ended WAFU Zone B U20 tournament hosted by Togo.
The former World Champions however lost 2-1 to their bitterest rival Nigeria in the final of the tournament. Nonetheless, Desmond Offei is elated about Ghana’s qualification to the U20 AFCON.
According to him, the team lost its core player en route to the WAFU tournament but he is happy the new crop of players did their best to qualify.
“Losing nine key players who were crucial to our success at the African Games was a significant blow. But this allowed us to build a new core of young talent, and these boys have stepped up tremendously. They deserve this qualification just as much as anyone else.” He said.
“Qualifying for the U-20 AFCON is a huge achievement for us, especially considering the circumstances. This team faced many challenges, but their determination and commitment have been incredible. I’m proud of each and every one of them.” He added.
Ghana will be hoping to lift their fifth AFCON trophy when they feature in next year’s African Cup of Nations.
