Black Satellites head coach Desmond Ofei has praised his team’s determination and resilience following their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Benin in the final Group A match of the 2025 WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship.

Ghana sealed a place in the semi-finals with the narrow win at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Wednesday, thanks to a decisive second-half strike from winger Bless Ege.

The match proved to be a tense and physical encounter, with Benin pushing the Satellites to their limits. Despite being reduced to 10 men before the hour mark, Ghana held on to their slender lead to book a spot in the last four.

In his post-match interview, Ofei acknowledged the tough nature of the contest and applauded his players for rising to the occasion.

“It’s a hard-fought victory,” Ofei said. “Honestly, we needed the win, so we had to show some character, and the boys showed that today, and that was what we were missing in our last game, and luckily we came away with a good goal and that led to the three points, so we are very happy.”

With the result, Ghana finishes second in Group A on goal difference behind Nigeria and will face the winner of Group B in the semi-final round.
