Daniel Gaspar Joins Black Stars Technical Team as Goalkeepers’ Trainer
The Black Stars have strengthened their technical setup ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with the appointment of Daniel Gaspar as goalkeepers’ trainer.
The confirmation came via his club, Hartford Athletic, as Gaspar links up once again with head coach Carlos Queiroz—a partnership that spans more than three decades.
Their working relationship dates back to 1992 and has seen them collaborate across multiple national teams and club environments, establishing a strong professional bond built on continuity and experience.
Gaspar brings a wealth of expertise to the role, having previously worked with the Portuguese national team in various capacities, including overseeing youth goalkeeping development. His coaching journey has also taken him to the South African national team and prominent clubs such as Sporting CP, Nagoya Grampus Eight, and NY/NJ MetroStars.

He later served as Portugal’s goalkeeping coach under Luiz Felipe Scolari before joining Benfica during José António Camacho’s tenure. Notably, Gaspar reunited with Queiroz in 2011 with the Iran national team, where he combined assistant coaching duties with his goalkeeping role. That period saw Iran qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and reach the quarter-finals of the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.
More recently, his impact at Hartford Athletic has been evident. Since joining the club in 2022, he has contributed to a steady rise in performance levels, including helping the side secure the USL Jägermeister Cup and maintain strong defensive records.
Gaspar now transitions to the international stage once more as Ghana prepares for its fifth appearance at the World Cup. The Black Stars have been drawn in a challenging Group L, where they will face England, Croatia, and Panama.
