Black Queens forward Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah has shared her excitement after Ghana secured a dominant 4-1 victory over Tanzania to book a place in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The London City Lionesses attacker capped off the win with a composed finish in the second half, sealing a crucial result that sees Ghana advance from Group C to face Algeria in the next round.

The Black Queens began the match on a strong note, taking the lead through Princella Adubea, but Tanzania hit back before the break with a goal from Stumai Abdallah. Ghana responded with renewed purpose in the second half, as Alice Kusi and Evelyn Badu restored control before Boye-Hlorkah added the fourth to wrap up an emphatic win.

Speaking after the match, Boye-Hlorkah praised her teammates and highlighted the collective effort behind the triumph.

“I am proud, I am so so proud of the girls like they have my back out there today. I try to lead, as everyone I am a character, I am very vocal on the pitch and I try to push the team as much as I can,” she said.

“Today, we went all out, we conceded a goal which I take full responsibility for but then as I look around all the girls were coming me up. I told the girls we are not going to win the game if we don’t play as a team and that is what we did.

“I am so proud of the girls, I am so proud of Ghana and I am proud of the fans.”

The Black Queens will now shift focus to their quarter-final clash against Algeria, scheduled for Saturday, as they continue their quest for a first continental title since the inception of the tournament.
