Ghanaian striker Antoine Semenyo believes AFC Bournemouth have earned the right to compete in Europe next season following their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Fulham on Monday night in the English Premier League.

Semenyo was the match-winner at the Vitality Stadium, scoring just 53 seconds into the contest with a brilliant curling effort that left Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno rooted. The goal — his eighth of the Premier League campaign — was enough to seal all three points and move the Cherries up to eighth in the standings.

Speaking after the match, the in-form forward expressed confidence in Bournemouth’s European ambitions.

“I feel like what we have done this year we do definitely deserve the European places,” Semenyo told Sky Sports.

“All season long we have been grinding and beating the top six teams. This little phase we are going through, losing and drawing — every team goes through that — but that is why this win is so important.”

The 24-year-old’s early strike gave Bournemouth the perfect start in a tense affair, as both sides aimed to close the gap on Aston Villa, who currently occupy the final guaranteed European spot.

“We came into the game wanting to give our all and you could see at the end in the celebrations that it meant a lot,” Semenyo added.

“It has been a tough couple of weeks, but it is good to be back on the board.”

The Cherries are now within touching distance of a potential European qualification spot, and with Semenyo rediscovering his scoring touch, Bournemouth fans have reason to dream of continental nights next season.
