Black Stars Defender Razak Simpson Completes Move to Finnish Club VPS
Ghana Premier League side Nations FC have confirmed the permanent transfer of Black Stars defender Razak Simpson to Finnish top-flight outfit Vasa Palloseura (VPS), bringing an end to his impressive spell with the Abrankese-based club.
The move marks Simpson’s first venture into European football after establishing himself as one of the most consistent defenders in the Ghana Premier League and earning recognition at international level with the Black Stars.
Announcing the transfer, Nations FC paid tribute to the defender’s contribution during his time at the club.
“Nations FC is pleased to announce the permanent transfer of Razak Simpson to Finnish top-flight side Vasa Palloseura (VPS). We are proud of everything Razak achieved in our colours and wish him every success in Finland,” the club said in a statement.
Simpson joined Nations FC from the West African Football Academy (WAFA) in August 2023 and quickly became a cornerstone of the club’s defence. Before arriving at Nations, he had also featured for AshantiGold and Liberty Professionals, building a reputation as one of the country’s most dependable defenders.
His impact at Nations FC was reflected in his numbers, making 89 appearances across all competitions and scoring nine goals. Across his domestic career with WAFA, AshantiGold, Liberty Professionals and Nations FC, Simpson accumulated 116 league appearances while maintaining an impressive goal return for a central defender.
His commanding displays at club level earned him a maiden Black Stars call-up ahead of Ghana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola in November 2024.
Since then, Simpson has become a regular member of the national team setup, earning six international caps. One of his standout moments came during the 2025 Unity Cup in London, where he found the net in Ghana’s convincing 4-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago.
Equally comfortable as a centre-back or in a holding midfield role, the versatile defender is expected to strengthen VPS as the Finnish club continues its Veikkausliiga campaign.
The move represents another milestone in Simpson’s career as he looks to make his mark in European football while continuing to compete for a place in the Black Stars squad.
