Black Starlets Eye First Win as They Prepare for Crucial Showdown with Ivory Coast
Ghana’s U-17 side, the Black Starlets, are bracing themselves for a must-win encounter against tournament hosts Ivory Coast in the WAFU Zone B U-17 Boys Championship on Tuesday evening in Yamoussoukro.
The young Ghanaians opened their campaign with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Togo, a result that has left them with little margin for error in their push to qualify for the knockout phase.
Head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum has underlined the importance of improved efficiency in front of goal, revealing that training sessions have been focused on finishing drills.
“Creating the chance is not the problem. It’s about conversion and because of that we had a full session on goal scoring in our last training session,” Dr. Ogum explained.
He further revealed that the team had simulated key moments from their first outing to help players refine their decision-making and composure inside the box.
“Some of the situations that happened in the game were recreated and we worked on the finishing in our last training session. The conversion was good at training and I’m sure our conversion against Ivory Coast will be better,” he added.
With kickoff scheduled for 6:00 pm local time, the clash promises to be a stern test of the Starlets’ resolve as they look to secure their first victory and strengthen their chances of advancing.
