Ghana’s Black Queens will soon learn the route to their next continental challenge, with the Confederation of African Football confirming that the draw for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will be held next Thursday in Rabat, Morocco.

Scheduled for January 15, the ceremony will officially set the groups for a landmark edition of the tournament, which will, for the first time, feature 16 national teams. The expansion represents a major step in CAF’s efforts to grow and strengthen women’s football across the continent.

Ghana head into the draw in a strong position. The Black Queens have been placed in Pot 1, a reflection of their impressive standing in African football following a third-place finish at the most recent WAFCON. That campaign ended on a high note, with Ghana clinching the bronze medal after edging past South Africa in a tense penalty shootout.

Their top-seeded status is further underlined by Ghana’s continental ranking, having closed out 2025 as the third-highest-ranked women’s national team in Africa. This seeding gives the Black Queens a degree of protection in the draw and signals the respect they command on the African stage.

As anticipation builds ahead of the Rabat ceremony, all eyes will be on the Black Queens to see which opponents stand between them and another deep run at Africa’s premier women’s football competition.
