Ghana’s Black Maidens began their 2024 WAFU Zone B U17 Girls Cup campaign in style, securing a commanding 4-1 victory over Benin in their opening match.
The game, held on Thursday, December 15, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, featured a stunning first-half hat-trick from Christiana Ashiaku.
The Maidens wasted no time in asserting their authority, with Priscilla Mensah opening the scoring in the 6th minute. From that moment, Ghana controlled the tempo, applying relentless pressure on the Benin defense.
In the 17th minute, Christiana Ashiaku made her mark, doubling Ghana’s lead with a composed finish. She continued her exceptional performance with two additional goals before halftime, completing her hat-trick and giving the hosts a commanding 4-0 lead.
Benin showed resilience in the second half, managing to score a consolation goal. However, the Black Maidens maintained control and ensured their comfortable lead remained intact, closing out the match with a 4-1 victory.
As hosts, the Black Maidens are determined to secure the championship, and this dominant performance serves as a statement of their intentions to triumph on home soil.
