Bernard Aryee Calls for Serious Investment in Colts Football
Former Black Stars midfielder Bernard Aryee has urged stakeholders in Ghana football to take colts football more seriously, stressing that it was the foundation that developed many of the country’s greatest players.
The ex-national star’s remarks come at a time when concerns continue to grow about the decline of grassroots football in Ghana, with many experts pointing to the need for a stronger developmental structure to sustain the nation’s footballing future.
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Fire for Fire, Aryee — who previously featured for Great Olympics, Hearts of Oak, and Liberty Professionals — drew a clear distinction between the traditional colts system and the modern football academies, arguing that the former produced tougher and more disciplined talents.
“I will plead that lets take colts football serious because that was what helped us. People are saying right now it is about academies. Academies wont work, Academies is business, colts is hard work,” Aryee stated.
Aryee’s call serves as a reminder of the pivotal role colts football has played in Ghana’s history, having produced legends who went on to shine for the Black Stars and clubs abroad. His appeal, therefore, reinforces the need for renewed investment in grassroots systems that emphasize hard work, competition, and raw talent discovery.
