Benjamin Asare Nears Return as Hearts of Oak Eye Medeama Clash
Hearts of Oak head coach Didi Dramani has offered a positive update on the fitness of captain and goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, hinting at a possible return when the Phobians take on Medeama SC next week.
Asare has been sidelined for several weeks after sustaining an injury during training shortly after Ghana’s participation in the 2025 Kirin Cup in Japan. The setback forced the Black Stars first-choice shot-stopper to miss seven Ghana Premier League fixtures, with his most recent appearance coming in the Super Clash against Asante Kotoko on November 9, 2025.
Encouragingly for Hearts supporters, the experienced goalkeeper has stepped up his recovery in recent days. Dramani confirmed that Asare has been back on the training pitch since mid-December and is edging closer to full fitness.
“Benjamin trained throughout last week, so he is about seventy percent ready. He played 30 minutes of our friendly game last week,” the Hearts coach revealed during his post-match press conference on Saturday.
Dramani stressed that the club is being cautious with the goalkeeper’s comeback, mindful of the circumstances surrounding his injury.
“We are trying to integrate him gradually so that he comes back. He went out with a force majeure, so that influences how we reintegrate him in the squad,” he explained.
With progress continuing, Asare is expected to be included in Hearts of Oak’s travelling party for Friday’s crucial away fixture against Medeama SC, a match that could have significant implications at the top end of the table.
Hearts currently occupy fifth place with 28 points, just two behind Medeama, who sit second and are level on points with leaders Asante Kotoko. A return for Asare could provide a timely boost as the Phobians look to close the gap on the league’s frontrunners.
