Ayew Strikes as Leicester Battle to 2-2 Draw with Oxford United
Leicester City came from behind twice to secure a 2-2 draw against Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday, with Ghanaian forward Jordan Ayew playing a starring role.
The contest began at a frenetic pace, with Oxford striking first through Will Lankshear, who finished clinically to give the hosts the lead. Leicester’s response was immediate. In the 13th minute, Ayew timed his run perfectly inside the box and tucked home a composed finish to bring the Foxes level, delighting the travelling fans.
The momentum appeared to swing against Leicester midway through the first half when Aaron Ramsey was shown a red card for a late challenge, leaving the visitors with ten men. Oxford quickly capitalised on the numerical advantage, regaining the lead after a Boubakary Soumaré own goal just before half-time.
The Foxes drew level again in the 55th minute when Fatawu’s driving run and clever pass picked out Ricardo Pereira, who slotted confidently into the net to make it 2-2.
Both teams pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but solid defending and missed chances meant the points were shared. Ayew earned plaudits for his work rate and composure, while Fatawu’s 70 minutes of high-energy wing play also stood out.
Leicester will now turn their attention to their next Championship fixture, a Midlands clash against Coventry on September 20.
