Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko have officially presented the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup trophy to the life patron of the club, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

The presentation, which took place on Wednesday, June 18, follows the club’s hard-fought 2-1 victory over Golden Kick FC in the FA Cup final last Sunday at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

Kotoko took the lead in the final through Kwame Opoku, who finished off a well-worked move with a close-range header in the 17th minute. However, Bless Ege of Golden Kick equalised with a spectacular free-kick, bringing the score to 1-1 at halftime.

In the closing moments of the match, Kotoko were awarded a penalty, which Opoku converted to seal the win for Coach Abdul Karim Zito’s side. The victory marked Kotoko’s 10th FA Cup title and secured their return to continental football next season.

Following their return to Kumasi on Monday, June 16, a Kotoko delegation led by Nana Apinkrah Akwasi Awuah, chairman of the Interim Management Committee (IMC), together with Technical Director Malik Jabir and club legend Kwesi Appiah, visited the palace to present the trophy to the revered monarch.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II commended the team for their determination and resilience in lifting the trophy, describing the triumph as a proud moment for the Asanteman.

Asante Kotoko’s FA Cup triumph not only ends their six-year trophy drought but also earns them a ticket to represent Ghana in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
