Asante Kotoko have officially announced the appointment of Hamza Obeng as the club’s new assistant coach, reinforcing their technical bench ahead of the upcoming Ghana Premier League season. Obeng, who signs a two-year contract, will also double as head coach of the club’s youth side, the Young Porcupines.

The former Hearts of Oak deputy coach joins from Vision FC, where he masterminded the club’s promotion to the Ghana Premier League in the just-ended 2024/25 campaign.

Obeng is widely regarded for his previous success at Hearts of Oak, having formed a formidable partnership with Samuel Boadu. Together, they led the Phobians to a domestic double in 2021—winning both the Ghana Premier League and the MTN FA Cup—and clinched another FA Cup title in 2022.

In a statement confirming the appointment, the Porcupine Warriors emphasized Obeng’s blend of top-flight experience and youth development credentials as central to the decision.

The move comes as part of a wider restructuring project by Asante Kotoko to rejuvenate their technical department under head coach Karim Zito. The Kumasi-based club endured an underwhelming 2024/25 season and are eager to reclaim their place at the top of Ghanaian football.
