Ghanaian sprint sensation Abdul-Rasheed Saminu has set his sights firmly on qualifying for the 200m event at the upcoming World Athletics Championships, following his recent national record-breaking exploits in the 100m.

The 22-year-old, who has emerged as one of Ghana’s most promising track athletes, is determined to build on his momentum by securing a spot on the global stage in the half-lap sprint. With the NCAA National Championship on the horizon, Saminu believes it presents a prime opportunity to meet the qualification standard.

In an interview with 3Sports, the national 100m record holder expressed his optimism and outlined his goal of clocking a time fast enough to earn qualification.

“Hopefully, I will qualify in the 200m from the NCAA National Championship but I have two chances to run,” Saminu said. “I’m just looking forward to run a, even 20.00, 20.12, 20.15. I’m good to go. I just need to qualify.”

Saminu, whose impressive form in the 100m has put him on the radar of international athletics watchers, is now pushing to dip below the 20-second barrier in the 200m — a milestone that would firmly place him among the elite sprinters on the world circuit.

If successful, Saminu will be one of Ghana’s key representatives at the World Athletics Championships, further boosting the country’s presence in global sprinting.
