“You Can’t Blame Desmond Ofei for Goals Conceded Against Egypt” – Nana Adarkwa
Head Coach of the Black Maidens and Epiphany Warriors, Nana Adarkwa, has defended Ghana U-20 coach Desmond Ofei following the team’s recent defeat to Egypt at the ongoing U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Egypt defeated Ghana 4-3 on penalties after the game ended 2-2 after 120 minutes. Ghana failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the competition and most importantly the 2025 U20 World Cup to be staged in Chile this year.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s SportsNite, Coach Adarkwa stated that the “goals conceded were due to defensive lapses, not tactical shortcomings from the technical bench.”
He said Desmond Ofie is a good coach and added that he knows him personally from the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
Nana Adarkwa also addressed tactical concerns, pointing out that the 4-2-3-1 formation can produce goals if the players are mentally prepared and disciplined.
He emphasized that the success of the system depends more on the mentality of the players than the formation itself.
