Black Stars Technical Advisor Winfried Schäfer has urged the Ghanaian national team to approach their next two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with confidence and a winning mentality.

Ghana, currently second in Group I, will face Chad and Madagascar in their upcoming World Cup qualifiers in March 2025.

Speaking on Ghana’s qualification campaign after four matchdays, Schäfer stressed that players should return to their clubs feeling stronger and more confident after national team duty.

“We have to go to the next two matches with confidence, with a winning mentality. The players have to know when they come here and go back to their club, he is highly motivated, he’s fit,” Schäfer stated.

The German tactician, who has vast experience in African football, highlighted the importance of ensuring that players do not dread coming to the national camp due to poor conditions.

“Nobody should think in his home, ‘Oh, now I have to go to Ghana, and the field is not good, the pitch is not good, the massage is not good.’ No. That is the first thing we have to fix,” he emphasized.

Schäfer believes that fostering a positive and professional atmosphere will be crucial in Ghana’s quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

“We have to make sure the players are happy when they come here. If we do that, we can take a big step towards the World Cup. That is what we have to do,” he concluded.

With Schäfer’s emphasis on mentality and infrastructure, the Black Stars will look to build momentum and edge closer to securing a place at the global tournament.
