Wastefulness Costs Kotoko as Owusu Rues Missed Chances in Vision Stalemate

Asante Kotoko interim head coach Prince Yaw Owusu has attributed his side’s disappointing draw with Vision FC to profligacy in the attacking third, insisting that failure to convert chances proved decisive at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The Week 24 Ghana Premier League encounter ended without goals despite an entertaining and competitive display from both teams. Kotoko controlled large spells of the match but ultimately failed to translate dominance into goals.

Reflecting on the contest, Owusu acknowledged the openness of the game while highlighting his team’s struggles in the final third.

“It was an open game. Vision is not a bad side. When they get the ball, they do what they want to do, and we also play when we get the ball, but when we get to the final turf, we just mess it up, and it’s a problem we need to work on,” he said.

Match statistics reinforced the coach’s concerns. Kotoko enjoyed 60 percent possession and fashioned numerous scoring opportunities, finishing with nine shots on target and eight off target. Vision FC, even after being reduced to ten men, still managed seven efforts on target and three off target, underlining the competitive nature of the fixture.

While Kotoko’s build-up play and control were evident, the inability to apply the finishing touch denied them maximum points — a result that could have strengthened their position in the title race.

The stalemate leaves the Porcupine Warriors fourth on the league table, now seven points behind the leaders. With the season entering a decisive phase, Owusu’s assessment is clear: improvement in front of goal is essential if Kotoko are to revive their championship ambitions.
