WAFCON 2024: Stella Nyamekye Confirms Black Queens Are Mentally Prepared for South Africa Rematch
Black Queens forward Stella Nyamekye has affirmed the team’s mental readiness ahead of their third-place playoff clash against South Africa in the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Ghana is set to face Bayana Bayana on Friday, July 25 at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, seeking redemption after falling to the defending champions in the group stage. In that earlier encounter, South Africa secured a 2-0 victory over the Queens.
Both sides head into the bronze medal match following semifinal defeats. Ghana suffered a 4-2 loss on penalties to Morocco after a 1-1 draw in regulation and extra time, while South Africa lost 2-1 to Nigeria, ending their title defense hopes.
Speaking to the media ahead of the fixture, Nyamekye stressed the team’s determination and psychological readiness.
“We have prepared very well for this game,” she said. “Per the training we have had, we are mentally prepared for this game,” Nyamekye added.
The highly anticipated rematch offers Ghana an opportunity to finish their campaign on a positive note and secure a place on the podium in this year’s tournament.
