Former Ghana international Sulley Ali Muntari has advised highly-rated winger Ernest Nuamah to stay put at Olympique Lyonnais for at least another season, despite increasing transfer speculation linking the youngster with top European clubs.

Nuamah, 20, has been one of Lyon’s standout performers this season. Before being sidelined by injury, he scored six goals and contributed two assists in 33 appearances across all competitions.

His exciting style of play and maturity beyond his years have drawn the attention of clubs in the English Premier League, including Fulham, Everton, and Crystal Palace.

But Muntari, speaking to AfricaFoot, urged caution and emphasized the importance of long-term development over short-term fame.

“Ernest is a player of pure talent. He’s elusive with the ball at his feet, excellent in one-on-one situations, and capable of creating danger at any moment. He’s a true defensive dynamite with a remarkable mentality,” the former Inter Milan and AC Milan star said.

Muntari, who enjoyed a glittering career across Europe, believes Lyon is the perfect environment for Nuamah to grow and sharpen his skills.

“Despite his injury, he’s generating interest because he’ll come back even stronger. Regarding his future, I think he still needs to develop at Olympique Lyonnais before aiming higher,” he added.

“He’s young, a regular, and playing in an environment that’s conducive to his development. An additional season at OL could allow him to reach a new level before considering a move to a more prestigious club.”

Nuamah, a product of Ghana’s Right to Dream Academy, made a big impression after moving to Europe and has since risen rapidly through the ranks. His composure, creativity, and explosiveness have made him one of Ghana’s most promising football exports.

While transfer links continue to swirl, Muntari’s comments offer a grounded perspective on managing early career success in modern football, urging the young star to focus on steady development before leaping into bigger challenges.
