Sulley Muntari Calls for Greater Inclusion of Ghanaian Football Legends
Former Black Stars midfielder Sulley Muntari has reiterated his concerns about the Ghana Football Association (GFA), urging the governing body to involve legendary ex-players in key decision-making roles to help revive the country’s football fortunes.
Muntari’s comments come at a time when Ghanaian football is facing significant challenges, including failure to qualify for the 2025 AFCON and other ongoing concerns.
Speaking in an interview with 3Sports, the former UEFA Champions League winner questioned the absence of influential figures like Abedi Pele and Tony Yeboah in Ghanaian football administration.
“Let’s ask ourselves, where is Abedi Pele? Why isn’t Abedi coming around? Why is Tony Yeboah not coming around?” Muntari asked, emphasizing the need to harness their expertise.
He further stressed that the involvement of such icons should go beyond coaching roles. “When Abedi Pele is in the system, you put him in the right place. I’m not talking about coaching.”
Abedi Pele, a three-time African Player of the Year and a key member of Ghana’s 1982 AFCON-winning squad, is widely regarded as one of the country’s greatest footballers. However, his influence in the administrative landscape remains minimal.
