Ghana’s Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams, has defended the government’s decision not to disclose the budget for the Black Stars’ recent World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.

His comments follow public calls for greater transparency regarding the financial allocations for the national team’s Matchday 5 and 6 fixtures in the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Speaking to Asempa FM, Adams explained that revealing the budget ahead of the games could have created unnecessary distractions for the team.

“People were asking me to disclose the budget for the games, but I kept asking myself, what will the budget do for the team ahead of the games?” he questioned.

“Sometimes, some situations create distractions for the team, so we should weigh every situation before making a decision.”

While emphasizing the need to protect the team’s focus during critical matches, Adams assured the public that the budget details would eventually be made available.

“The budget for the team will be made available. There is nothing to hide from the public,” he stated.

“It is expensive to take care of the national team because most of the players are coming from Europe, but apart from that, everything will be made available.”

The Black Stars are currently leading Group I after back-to-back victories against Chad and Madagascar. They will resume their campaign in June, facing Chad again and Mali as they push for a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
