Former Real Tamale United (RTU) head coach Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko has expressed optimism about the club’s future following their failed bid to return to the Ghana Premier League.

RTU’s hopes of making a swift comeback to the top flight were dashed last Friday after a 2-1 defeat to Techiman Eleven Wonders in a crucial Division One playoff match at the Accra Sports Stadium. The loss marked the end of what had been a promising but turbulent campaign for the Northern-based club.

Speaking in an interview with Joy FM, Tanko applauded the team’s effort throughout the season and urged stakeholders to stay focused on the long-term goal.

“Rebuilding is an effort. I will commend them for that effort to have come this far,” he said.

“The only thing is that I’m hoping they are able to maintain that composure to return in this regard next time around.”

The club was relegated from the Ghana Premier League last season under controversial circumstances after being found guilty of fielding unregistered players in a match against Dreams FC.

Despite the administrative setbacks and pressure, RTU managed to mount a strong campaign, eventually earning a place in the playoff against Eleven Wonders. However, their dream of an immediate return to the elite division ended in heartbreak after falling at the final hurdle.
