Samuel Kuffour Regrets Missing Out on AFCON Glory
Former Ghana international Samuel Osei Kuffour has expressed deep regret over his inability to win the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) during his illustrious playing career, describing it as one of his biggest disappointments.
The ex-Bayern Munich defender, who won multiple club trophies, including the UEFA Champions League, played for the Black Stars from 1993 to 2006, making 54 appearances and scoring three goals.
However, despite featuring in several AFCON tournaments, he never lifted the prestigious continental trophy.
Reflecting on his own career, Kuffour admitted that failing to win AFCON remains a painful memory.
“Some of us, including myself, never got the chance to win the AFCON. It kills me every day because there is nothing I can show to my children,” he lamented.
“It’s a very difficult tournament because African players know each other so well—the strength, technique, and understanding of the game are always the same. Winning it is not easy,” he added on Sporty TV
Despite Ghana’s long history of football excellence, the Black Stars have not won the AFCON since 1982, making it one of the most sought-after titles in the country’s football history.
