Samartex reignited their charge for a top-four finish with a hard-earned 2-1 victory over Asante Kotoko following the resumption of their Ghana Premier League encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The fixture had previously been halted due to heavy rainfall with the scoreline untouched, but the momentum shifted firmly in Samartex’s favour once play resumed. The visitors showed greater urgency after the break and were rewarded in the 54th minute when Christian Agyenim Boateng capped off a flowing team move with a composed finish.

Kotoko’s hopes of a comeback suffered a major setback when Samed Kyei received his marching orders after a second booking, leaving the hosts with an uphill task. Samartex took full advantage of the numerical edge, extending their lead in the 80th minute through Emmanuel Essien.

Albert Amoah pulled one back late on for Kotoko, but the goal came too late to alter the outcome as Samartex held firm to secure maximum points.

The defeat leaves Kotoko in fourth place on 43 points after 28 matches, missing an opportunity to reduce the gap on league leaders Bibiani Gold Stars. Medeama SC and Hearts of Oak continue to occupy second and third positions respectively.

Meanwhile, Samartex’s victory lifts them to sixth on the table, keeping their ambitions of breaking into the top four firmly on track as the season approaches its conclusion.
